Park and ride to ease journey to the Games

19July2002

Transport bosses are encouraging ticket holders to leave their cars at the park and ride sites and make the journey to Games venues by public transport.

Metrolink

Park and ride ticket holders can use the Metrolink for free access into the City Centre

There will be no dedicated parking at Sportcity or at the city centre venues for Games visitors, except for dedicated areas for disabled people.

The three park and ride sites - at Heaton Park to the north of the city centre, Manchester United Football Club and Lancashire County Cricket Club to the south - provide around 8,000 car parking spaces.

For a fixed parking fee of 5 per vehicle, Games ticket holders can make use of free shuttle bus services to Sportcity venues and the city centre, as well as free Metrolink tram services to the city centre.

All the sites offer staffed, secure and well-lit facilities and have frequent, direct links to the city centre and Sportcity. Park and ride spaces can be pre-booked by phone or online
