23 July 2002
The Commonwealth Games website has been named ‘Site of the Month’ in the August edition of Internet magazine. It has also been voted ‘Site of the Week’ in New Media Age magazine.
The site is continuing to rack up the big numbers:
Average daily hits for the website are currently running at over 4 million.
It is predicted the figure will reach a total of 150 million hits a day during the Games as people call up the website results service.
Over 70% of total sales of tickets for the Games have been sold online - the highest figure for any multi-sports event.
Additionally there is a text only site for partially sighted and blind people and it is compatible for voice synthesisers.
Richard Bowen, Web Editor of www.commonwealthgames.com said: “The Manchester 2002 website has been designed to deliver easily accessible up-to-date news and practical information about the Manchester Games to site visitors.
“The ticketing section has been extremely successful with huge online sales recorded, while the Kids’ Zone has proved a massive hit with children across the world e-mailing in their Games gallery pictures and good luck messages.”
