Manchester is well on track in its preparations for hosting the XVII Commonwealth Games this summer. The Commonwealth Games will be the biggest multi-sport event ever to take place in the UK and represents a fantastic opportunity to showcase Manchester, the North West and Britain. The Games will also reflect modern multi-cultural Britain with all its diversity and vibrancy.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the 2002 Games. The Games experience will be opened up to ensure that as many people as possible will have the opportunity to participate in the event, either as athletes, spectators, visitors or as volunteers. We want everyone to feel proud to have played a part in making the XVII Commonwealth Games a truly memorable occasion.

The Commonwealth Games competition runs from 25 July to 4 August 2002. There are many ways in which people can get involved, both in the run up to the Games as the excitement builds and at Games time. For example, you could become part of Crew 2002 which is made up of up to 10,000 volunteers, each of whom will play an active and crucial role in making the Games happen. You could take part in the Spirit of Friendship Festival which will be the biggest nationwide cultural festival in a lifetime.

And then there's The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay, similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, which will provide a Community Celebration in a different town, city or village across Britain, every day for 50 days. 2002 is also the year of Her Majesty The Queen's Golden Jubilee providing lots of opportunities for joint celebrations at local, regional or national levels.

This pages have been put together to tell you about the different opportunities for getting involved. We believe there really is something for everyone and hope you will feel able to join us in celebrating and showcasing our cultures and communities to the rest of the Commonwealth. We invite you to 'Count yourself in'.
