Festival Live Visitors to Manchester city centre are invited to celebrate the Games this summer with Festival Live, a festival of free entertainment in the city brought by Manchester City Council and Manchester 2002, the organisers of the XVII Commonwealth Games.

Festival Live sees the city centre of Manchester come alive with large screens, street performances and events from cutting edge Manchester DJ's to traditional brass bands. The fun commences from 25 July, when the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will welcome the world to Manchester.

16 venues will be bursting with fun and excitement as 40 live acts perform in the city each day. Over 180 hours of live sport will be shown on big screens and 275 hours of entertainment will be put on for an estimated live audience of two million people.

'There will be something for everyone during Festival Live,' said Executive Producer Margaret Nuttall. 'Festival Live will welcome visitors to the City, it will animate and enhance the experience of the Games for residents, visitors, athletes and officials and create a lasting impression of fun, excitement, warmth and friendliness. Visitors to the city will have every opportunity to join in and have some fun - whether it be catching their favourite sporting event on our live screens, relaxing to the strains of the finest music, partying to the best of urban and dance music or enjoying our live circus acts.'

'We really want to extend Manchester's Commonwealth Games celebrations from the sporting venues and bring them into the streets so that everyone can get into the spirit of the Games this summer.'
