Team Selection

Over the past month the English team have been trialling for the Commonwealth Games. The first trial was at Guildford on the 19 May just three weeks after the European Championships which meant no break after the euros.

The first trial also tied in as the British team championships. In this trial Rebecca Owen of Park Wrekin won the overall standing and I came in second position. Cherelle Fennelle of Wigan placed third with Ashtone Johnston of City of Liverpool following only 0.025 behind in fourth.

The second trial was at the City of Liverpool gymnastics club, which is my home club. I scored my personal best on the new code at this competition scoring 36.1. Rebecca Owen placed second and Lizzie Line of Pinewood Gymnastics club in third. Two down only one two go and two weeks to prepare for it.

On the 9 June the final trial for the Commonwealth games took place. It was also the English Championships. After an early start of 9 o'clock the presentations finally revealed the top 6. In 6th position was Amy Dodsley slightly ahead was Katy Lennon of Leatherhead and Dorking. lizzie Line placed in 4th with Nicola Willis of South Essex taking the bronze in only the first trial she took place in due to injury. Rebecca Owen placed in second only three tenths behind me meaning it was a very close competition between us.

The selection process for the competition was the top three were automatically selected and the coaches chose the other two places.

After a week of waiting the letters finally arrived the post and the team was announced. The final team is:-

Me
Rebecca Owen
Nicola Willis
Lizzie Line
Katy Lennon
Ashtone Johnston (reserve)

The team will now prepare for the Games. We have a team competition against Romania on the 29/30 June and the following weekend the British championships. From the 10 of July we will train together on camp at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
