Each dive will be made up from a number of variables, for example, twists, pikes, tucks and somersaults. The combination of these provides a difficulty rating for the dive. Divers inform the judges what they will attempt to do and they will then mark what actually happened against what was intended. Judging
All scores are subjective with judges working individually to score the diver's approach, take-off, elevation, execution and entry.
A judge will be looking for confidence, forcefulness and grace in the dive while watching to make sure all the required manoeuvres are completed. Finally the entry into the water is essential with the divers trying to make as little splash as possible. Other rules
- A diver who performs a dive other than the one announced receives no points.
- A dive performed in a position other than the one announced receives no more than two points from each judge.
- If a diver lifts his or her feet slightly off the board before take-off from a standing dive, each judge deducts one or two points.
- Points will be deducted if a diver touches the board again after the dive has begun.
- A judge will consider a dive complete when the diver's whole body disappears beneath the water.
