Morning's swimming session underway


The first swimming heats of the morning have been completed. First up were the seven menís 50m freestyle heats.

With no seeds going in the first three heats, it wasnít until the fourth that we had a qualifer in the shape of Jonathon Winter from New Zealand.

In heat 5 Brett Hawke finished ahead of South African Ryk Neethling in a good time of 22.67.

Other impressive qualifiers in further heats were Ashley Callus (AUS) and Roland Schoeman (RSA) who progressed into the final with sub-23 second times.

Meanwhile in the womenís 200m backstroke, Australian Clementine Stoney charged home in the first heat just ahead if Jennifer Fratesi.

Englandís Jo Fargus pushed out Kelly Tucker and Kirsty Coventry in heat 2 while Sarah Price set a new Games record of 2.11.91 and will go into the final as favourite.
