swimmingAustralian dominance in the pool seems to grow with every major event. The land down under is swim crazy and with national heroes like Ian "The Thorpedo" Thorpe unable to walk down the street without being mobbed there, they'll be determined to take a bag of gold back with them from Manchester.

Local heroes such as James Hickman and Graeme Smith will be hoping to put the skids under the aussie challenge and maybe keep a few of those medals in the host city.

There can be little doubt that swimming will be one of the most popular events at Manchester 2002 and with Thorpe already predicting to Commonwealthgames.com that records will fall, it seems as though a seat at the Aquatics Centre will be one of the hottest tickets in town.

Swimming will run for six days from 30 July to the end of the games with finals scheduled for every evening so if you want to see records smashed book a date in your diary now.
