Welsh shuttle stars in final training
18 July 2002
The Welsh badminton team, who are seeded fourth, are training at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff in preparation for the Games.
National coach, Chris Rees said: "Training has been going extremely well and everybody has put in a 100 per cent.” "Let's see if we can do some damage now at the Games and come home with a couple of medals.” "We've already achieved our first goal, and that was to be seeded in the top four. If we can get through the group stage in the team event, we have a good chance of a medal which would be great news for Welsh sport." The team going to Manchester includes Felicity Gallup, Jo Muggeridge, Kelly Morgan, Kerry-Ann Sheppard, Liam Ingram, Matthew Hughes, Martyn Lewis, Neil Cotrill, Richard Vaughan and Robyn Ashworth. This will be the third Commonwealth Games for Kelly Morgan who will be hoping to retain her gold medal.
