The man from Sunderland proved far too strong for Canada’s David Cadieux and was virtually guaranteed the gold medal after the third round.

22-year-old Dolan danced round the ring to avoid his frustrated opponent in the final round making sure of victory, the final score was 27-20.

Dolan takes the title that Audley Harrison won four years ago and he was obviously thrilled: “It’s a great feeling winning gold with so many people here supporting me.”

Afterwards he also defended his winning tactics: “I went in to the last round ten points up and I thought why risk it?”

Nigeria’s Jegbefumere made it look easy as he took the light-heavyweight title 16-8 over Joseph Lubega of Uganda. He used his superior reach to pick off his opponent effortlessly.

It was another comfortable victory in heavyweight final with Jason Douglass of Canada taking the gold. The 22-year-old student never looked troubled as he took the contest 20 points to 13.
