Golden girls win at the Table Tennis Centre

In a match that took less than 25 minutes, Singapore disposed of an out-of-practice New Zealand pair in four sets (11-3, 11-7, 10-12, 11-4).

Sisters Li Chunli and Karen Li of New Zealand got off to a slow start in the first and things didn't look much better in the second.

But with a change of tactics New Zealand won the third.

With a series of well-placed balls, Singapore were able to bring up match point when they hit a shot right into the body of Li Chunli.

Singapore won the game when Karen Li was not able to return a powerful serve, hitting it into the net.

Li Jia Wei commented: "We are very happy. We played very well."

Team-mate Jing Jun Hong added: "This match wasn't easy. It was very difficult and we are very happy with the win."

The final result of the Women's Doubles was gold to Li Jia Wei and Jing Jun Hong of Singapore, silver to New Zealand's Li Chunli and Karen Li, and bronzes to Miao Miao and Lay Jian Fang of Australia, and Tan Paey Fern Sharon and Zhang Xue Ling of Singapore.

Silver medal winner New Zealand's Li Chunli concluded: "Today we played against a good team. We didn't have enough practice. We made too many return mistakes. We made many misses."
