A team of 19 athletes and 12 officials is travelling to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Team members were picked after they made it to the Singapore National Olympic Council list.

The largest team led by 19-year-old Li Jia Wei is table tennis with nine athletes

Mark Chay, Joscelin Yeo and Christel Bouvron make up the swimming team, and Ang Peng Siong will be the head-coach. Singapore hopes its swimmers will break the 40-year-old gold drought.

Christel Bouvron said: "It's really great that Uncle Siong has been nominated the head coach cause he coaches Mark as well, and it's great because we are majorly aiming for the Asian Games so he will know how to taper us properly."

In the double trap event shooters Lee Wung Yew and Tan Chee Keong will be taking part.

In the shot put and discus Dong EnXin, who recently became a Singaporean, is the sole representative from athletics.

Another solo member who has set a medal target for himself is badminton player Ronald Susilo. Other shuttlers are under consideration if they get their Singapore citizenship before the deadline for entries in June.
Two disabled athletes have been included for the first time.

Annabel Pennefather, chef-de-mission of the Singapore contingent, said: "All the nominations that came in were either those with medal potential or those who were close enough to the qualification marks, so I think that made it easier for the Selection Committee."

Tickets for swimming are available from our ticketing section.
