Aussie swim team arrive in Manchester

Ian Thorpe, Grant Hackett and other members of the Australian aquatics squad for the XVII Commonwealth Games arrived in the UK today.

Ian Thorpe arrives at Manchester Airport

They flew into Terminal 3 of Manchester Airport on a shuttle service from Frankfurt after leaving their training camp near Stuttgart and arrived in Manchester shortly before midday.

The squad are expected to achieve a massive medal haul in the swimming events.

Thorpe said: "I am looking forward to my first race on Tuesday. I'm feeling well-prepared and I think we have a really strong swim team."

Among those jetting in were:
Ian Thorpe - world champion in 200m, 400m, 800m freestyle
Grant Hackett - world champion in 1500m freestyle
Matt Welsh - world champion in 100m backstroke
Ashley Callus - world champion in short-course
Geoff Huegill - world champion in 50m, 100m butterfly
