Zoe Baker sets a European record at Manchester 2002

England's Zoe Baker broke her own European record by one hundredth of a second in winning her heat of the women’s 50m breaststroke in a time of 31.03 to lead the qualifiers for tonight’s semi-finals.

Afterwards Baker explained: “My plan there was to work it to 30 metres. There were a few nerves out there, so I feel very pleased with a PB considering I wasn’t giving it my all and was gliding towards the wall."
