Zoe Baker breaks world record in semi-final

Baker charged home in 30.57 seconds to win the second semi-final of the women’s 50m breaststroke.

She was more than a second faster than Leisel Jones, who won the first of the two semi finals.

Her time beat the previous best of 30.83 seconds, set by Penny Heynes (RSA) at the Sydney Olympics two years ago.

A delighted Zoe Baker said: “I’m really pleased with that. That was my aim – I wanted to go out and break a world record in the semi so I can just concentrate on the final.”
