Du Toit too hot in EAD freestyle

31 July 2002

South Africa’s Natalie Du Toit had to endure a tense wait while the results of the women’s multi-disability 50m freestyle final were worked out.

Steph Dixon

Stephanie Dixon could only manage silver

In order to decide the winner a formula is applied to the athlete’s times to work out the placings against the current world record in the disability class.

When the results flashed up, the world and commonwealth record holder was visibly moved.

Du Toit, who had completed in Malaysia four years earlier finished the race in a time of 29.68 with Canada taking silver and bronze with Stephanie Dixon and Danielle Campo taking the honours.

1: Natalie Du Toit (RSA) – 29.68 – 1.06
2: Stephanie Dixon (CAN – 30.60 – 0.14
3: Danielle Campo (CAN) – 35.02 + 0.07
