Team England names four of its captains

Team England have taken the unusual step of naming four captains for their athletics team.

110m hurdler, Tony Jarrett, will captain the men's track team

John Brierley, the team manager, said: “It is in recognition of their services to English athletics, their performances and their inter-personal skills.”

Shot putter Myrtle Augee, the overall captain and women’s field events captain, is making her fifth appearance at the Games, having completed a full set of medals, headed by a gold in Auckland in 1990.

Sprinter Shani Anderson, the women’s track captain, competes at the Games for the first time.

Tony Jarrett, the defending 110m hurdles champion, leads the men’s track team, while Mick Jones, silver medallist in the hammer in Kuala Lumpur, is the field events captain.
