A full house watched the success of Wilberforce Talel

The men's 10,000m proved highly successful for the Kenyan team. Their three competitors finished in the top four of the race.

Twenty-two year old Wilberforce Talel finished the 10,000m race in 27:45:39 minutes. Not only did this time win Tabel the race, but he also obtained the Commonwealth record.

He commented, "It was good to have my teammates around me. We co-operated well and had previously discussed the race. The last lap was very tough, especially when my teammates tried to sprint. With 15 metres to go I thought I was going to be second or third."

Paul Malakwen, also of Kenya, finished second in at time of 27:45:46. He discussed his feelings on Kenya achieving the top two honours of the race. "We run as a team. We tried for one, two, three, but unfortunately we didn't get that because of the Tanzanian John Yuda. He was a tough guy."

John Yuda of the United Republic of Tanzania came in third place.
