Local boy through to the next round

The men’s 200m heats are underway with local boy Darren Campbell staking his claim in the quarter finals.

Other qualifiers to join Campbell (20.87) include England’s Marlon Devonish (20.61) and Chris Lambert (20.77). Silver medallist in the 100m final, Uchenna Emedolu (21.49) of Nigeria, has moved closer to another medal with a comfortable qualification into the next stage. Veteran sprinter Frankie Fredericks (20.85) won his heat and will also battle it out for a place in the semi-finals. Kim Collins who won gold in the men’s 100m on 27 July pulled out of the heats earlier in the day.
