Debbie Ferguson qualifies quickest for 200m final

The stage is set for sprint queen Debbie Ferguson to add the 200m title to her 100m gold.

Debbie Ferguson races into the final

Heat 1 of the women's 200 metres saw success for The Bahama's Debbie Ferguson. She got off to a good start and completed the track in a time of 22.67 seconds to claim first place. Ferguson's time was the best overall after both heats.

Beverley McDonald of Jamaica came second in 23.01 seconds. She was followed by Cayman Islands' Cydonie Mothersille (23.07).

Jamaica's Juliet Campbell won first place in Heat 2. She completed the race in 23.01 seconds. Natasha Mayers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines came a close second (23.09).

Australian Lauren Hewitt won third place in 23.21 seconds.

Sharon Cripps of Australia and England's Joice Maduaka also qualified for the final event.

The women's 200m final will take place later this evening at the City of Manchester Stadium.
