Fredericks shows the way in men's 200 semis

Frankie Fredericks of Namibia set the pace in the the first of the men's 200m semi finals with a fast time of 20.34 seconds.

A packed stadium saw Marlon Devonish of England come second with a time of 20.55 seconds closely followed by Abdul Aziz Zakari who came third with a time of 20.57. England's big hope Darren Campbell came fourth with a season's best of 20.58 seconds giving him a qualifying place in the final.

The second semi final was won by Dominic Demeritte of the Bahamas with a time of 20.43. Joseph Batangdon of Cameroon came second with a time of 20.55 seconds. Christian Malcolm of Wales set a season's best coming third also with a time of 20.55. The fourth and final qualifying place went to Morne Nagel of South Africa with 20.57.

With all eight finalists now through the tension is building up for the final at 20.14 this evening.
