A packed Manchester stadium cheered the jumpers to victory in a close and tense competition of world class jumping. Boswell who won the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg jumped an incredible 2.28m, only 0.08m short of the Games record set by Nick Saunders in Aukland 1990.

Boateng who came 12th in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, set a seasonís best with a height of 2.25m.

Englandís Ben Challenger, who represented Britain in the 2000 Olympics and 1999 and 2001 World Championships, also set a season's best also jumping 2.25m to take the bronze.

Afterwards, Boswell said: ďIt was a great day. I knew it was going to be a tough competition. Both Ben [Challenger] and Dalton [Grant] have both had great jumps in the past and you have to be aware of that. Anybody could have won that. I really wanted the get 2.36m. Itís a bar I have been trying to get all year."

England's veteran Dalton Grant, who finished in sixth position, said: ďIím frustrated. Iíve lost confidence after my injuries. My problem is not with the height, but with my technique. Itís just a matter of time before I am back in the groove.Ē
