The women's long jump final produced a surprise result tonight. The Games favourite, England's Jade Johnson, finished the event in second place.

Jamaican Elva Goulbourne scooped gold with a distance of 6.70m. She was the clear winner; beating her nearest competition by 12cm.

Jade Johnson achieved a distance of 6.58m to win the silver medal. This may be small consolation for the athlete tipped to take gold.

Anju Bobby George took bronze, for India, with a distance of 6.49m.
