English celebrate long-jump gold


Englandís Nathan Morgan took long jump gold in front of an ecstatic home crowd, pushing out Chris Tomlinson along the way.

Morgan put in a second jump of 8:02 which was good enough to claim top spot ahead of Gable Garenamotse, who took Botswanaís first medal of the Games and the Cayman Islands coming third through Kareem Streete-Thompson.

Afterwards Morgan said:

ďIn the qualification I struggled so much because of my heel. But I had an injection and it paid off. At the moment thereís no pain. Iím not sure how it will feel later on tonight, but who cares? Iím Commonwealth champion and I canít believe it.Ē

ďItís been a long time coming. Iíve been competing for Great Britain for years now. Iíve had a lot of injuries, but I can say that Iím back and Iím going to keep on winning,Ē he continued.
