Badminton's semi-final line-up complete

02†August†2002

The semi-final line-ups were completed in Fridayís evening session and Tracey Hallam (ENG) grabbed the last womenís singles spot.

Bolton Arena 2

The world number 20 Hallam and her opponent, Scotlandís Susan Hughes, had a marathon match lasting 53 minutes which the English player finally won 8-6 in the fifth set after losing the first two.

The final two menís doubles semi-finalists were also decided when a nervous-looking James Anderson (ENG) and Simon Archer (ENG) beat the last-standing Australianís Murray Hocking and Peter Blackburn 3-7, 7-5, 8-6, 7-1.

In the last match of a late eveningís play Nathan Robertson (ENG), in partnership with Anthony Clark (ENG), half made up for his disappointment of losing earlier on Friday in the mixed doubles by beating Indiaís Valiyaveetil Diju and Thomas Sanave in three sets, 8-6 in the third.

Jo Goode (ENG) ensured her place in two semis by beating Fatimah Kumin Lim (SIN) and Yanmei Jiang (SIN) with partner Gail Emms (ENG). Earlier in the day Goode partnered with Archer to win their Mixed Doubles quarter-final.

In the last of her three quarter-finals Denyse Julien (CAN) had her final chance to make the semis but lost with Tamara Sun (CAN) to Malaysiaís Lim Pek Siah and Ang Li Peng.
