In the menís singles Geoff Bellingham of New Zealand cruised past unseeded Sri Lankan Miluka Karunaratne in straight sets.

Bellingham had little trouble progressing in the singles

Welshman Richard Vaughan took revenge for his loss to Ronald Susilo in the team competition.

Manchesterís 7th seed Colin Haughton lost to 12th seed Indian Abhinn Gupta citing mental fatigue as the main reason for his loss. Kiwi Nick Hall eventually overcame Mark Constable in a tight game lasting four sets.

Number 2 seed Lee Tsuen Seng was taken to five sets by India's Nikhil Kanetar, eventually closing out the match in just over an hour 7-3, 4-7, 7-4, 4-7, 7-5.

Elsewhere top seed Wong Choong Hann made light work of John Gordon, as did Pullela Gopi Chand over Stephan Wojcikiiewisz of Canada. Hashim Muhammad Hafiz had a similar result over Australian Stuart Brehaut.

In the womenís singles Aparna Popat easily accounted for Amrita Sawarem, as did England team gold medallist Tracey Hallam over Lisa Lynas of Northern Ireland. Other comfortable winners included Julia Mann, Li Li, Kelly Morgan and Susan Hughes.

Ng Mee Fen fought out a tight game with Trupti Murgunde eventually winning in five sets 5-7, 7-2, 7-3, 4-7, 7-2. Veteran Denyse Julien came from behind to oust Nicole Gordon in four sets.

In the mixed doubles there were straight set wins to the No.1 pairing of Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms as well as Russell Hogg & Kirsteen McEwan and Lau Kim and Jiang Yanmei.

Chew Choon Eng & Chin Eei Hui of Malaysia had a long five set match with Chris Blair & Tammy Jenkins of New Zealand, eventually overcoming them 4-7, 7-2, 1-7, 7-3, 7-4.

Meanwhile veteran Denyse Julien reached her second quarter-final, this time with William Milroy, accounting for the Australians Travis Denney & Kate Wilson-Smith in a tough game, 7-8, 4-7, 8-6, 8-6, 7-1.
