Graeme Brown celebrates two gold medals

An ecstatic Brown said: “I knew if I sat on the front and led it out I was extremely confident that no-one was going to come over me.”

On winning two golds in an evening he said: “The high of going so well, winning a gold medal and breaking the world record is a drug in itself.”

Huw Pritchard of Wales took the silver. Pritchard said: “At the last Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, I got in a group of 12 or 15 but then I missed when the four guys went, so I’ve been thinking about that ever since. I just wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again.”

The bronze was taken by Tony Gibb of England. Commenting on his performance Gibb said: “I’ve won a medal at the Commonwealth Games on home soil. The wrong colour, but a medal.”
