Ross Brewer, Commonwealth team gold medallist said:

“The best thing tonight was the pressure on the high bar – the last piece of apparatus. This is without doubt the highlight of my career.”

“The atmosphere was electric.”

John Smethurst said of the team’s performance: “It’s got to be one of the best feelings of my life. As the competition went on we got better and better. We knew we were in the lead and just kept our concentration."

“Getting married and the feeling tonight are the best days of my life. Kuala Lumpur was great because it was my first major competition, but to win gold here in Manchester, in front of everybody, was amazing.”

Cuong Thoong, another medallist in the team agreed with the sentiments of many of the other gymnasts when he enthused about the atmosphere in the G-MEX Centre: “The crowd was fantastic. This was our opportunity and we knew we had to take it."

“I’m absolutely thrilled because this is my first major event.”
