The winning team, made up of Jacqui Dunn, Stephanie Moorhouse, Allana Slater, Alexandra Croak and Sarah Lauren, took gold with a total of 111.325 points.

England took the silver with 106.900 points. Beth Tweddle, women’s team silver medallist said “We did really well – Nicola Willis in particular did excellently at the end to win us the silver medal.”

Of her own performance she said: “I could have done better, but that’s what happens. I was most disappointed with the beam because I slipped down the side – I knew we were close to losing second place. Hopefully I’ll get gold on the bars in the individual competition.”

Willis said: “I’m really pleased – we definitely wanted to keep hold of our silver. The pressure was on for me on the beam, so that was my best performance. I feel I was steady all round.”

“The crowd was fantastic – maybe not the biggest we’ve performed in front of, but definitely the loudest.”

Canada narrowly missed silver to get third place with a total of 106.800.
