Hockeyroos team selected

27 June 2002

Australia hopes youth and experience will lead to games success.

Louise Dobson

Australia hopes for success with four experienced players who missed selection for the Sydney Olympics. Louise Dobson, Bianca Langham-Pritchard, Brooke Morrison and Karen Smith are in a squad of 16.

David Bell, the Hockeyroos coach, believes the team is well-balanced.

"I think it's a good mix of youth and experience but also I think there's a fair bit of versatility in the group and there's a number of players that can play in two lines, the full back line or the half back line, there's a couple of players who can play in the half line in the midfield or midfield striker zone," he said.

The full Australian squad is:

Katrina Powell (capt), Carmel Bakurski, Nina Bonner, Tammy Cole, Louise Dobson, Nikki Hudson, Rachel Imison, Bianca Langham Pritchard, Brooke Morrison, Bianca Netzler, Angie Skirving, Karen Smith, Ngaire Smith, Sarah Taylor, Julie Towers, Melanie Twitt.

Tickets are still available for the hockey from our ticketing section.
