Young Malaysian hockey team preparing for action

25 July 2002

Juriah Abdul Wahab Fenner, Malaysian women’s manager, says her team have had a hectic training schedule after a late call-up for the Games.

The Malaysians were replacements for Jamaica, who withdrew with only a few months to go before the competition.

Abdul Wahab Fenner was preparing her team for the 2006 Asian Games when the invitation came to compete at Manchester.

Despite the rush she believes that preparations are going well with her young team.

“It will give a lot of experience to my girls who are very young, with an average age of 21,” she said. “I’ve got four 17-year olds, first time internationals, as part of our development programme.”
