Small in final after titanic duel
31 July 2002
England’s Ruth Small is on course for a medal in the Women’s Blind Singles after her titanic 15-10 victory over Vanessa Hinton of Australia.
The pair played out a 17-end four-and-a-half hour battle in dreary, drizzly conditions on Wednesday morning. Small maintains her place at the top of the table ahead of Malaysia’s Mukri Moira, who is equal on four points but behind on shot difference. Hinton went ahead by two shots in the first end, and the pair traded ends until the 10th, when they were tied 10-each. Small, 70, won the next four ends to take the match 15-10. She will face Zimbabwe’s Sibanda Constance or Vivian Berkeley (CAN) in the final on Thursday, 1 August. Info News Service/mb/sdb
