Sri Lanka finally win at the MEN Arena

Sri Lanka finished bottom of pool A after losing four consecutive games two of which were by narrow margins (to Canada by three goals and Wales by one).

The win on Wednesday 31 July has earned them a berth in the playoff for seventh on Friday 2 August against either Canada or Fiji.

Barbados opened strongly against Sri Lanka in what was almost a goal-for goal first quarter and led 13-11 at the first change.

Both goal attacks were on target in that first quarter with Barbados' Olivia Walcott netting 6/6 and Sri Lanka's Gishanthi Jayakody shooting 7/7.

It was the second quarter where Sri Lanka gained control in outscoring Barbados by seven goals to put themselves in the box seat.

The increasing pressure on the Barbados shooters became evident and when their accuracy dropped, Sri Lanka moved into a 33-29 three quarter-time lead.

Barbados attacked in the final quarter to draw level 35-35 with five minutes remaining, but Sri Lanka held steady for the narrow win.
