Barbados net win over Canada

Barbados secure ninth position with a convincing win against Canada 64-30 in the classification playoff.
Barbados began their Games’ campaign in promising style a week ago with a competitive performance against medal-contender Jamaica but then struggled to consolidate in what was a tough pool B.
Barbados had a thorough Games preparation with internationals against Australia, New Zealand and England and had expected a higher finish in Manchester.
Barbados defeated Fiji through the preliminary round but lost to Sri Lanka in Wednesday’s cross-pool classification relegating them to the ninth playoff.
Canada, eventual 10th, managed a preliminary win against Sri Lanka but were defeated by Fiji in the classifications on Wednesday.
In Friday’s (02 Aug) free flowing contest Barbados controlled the game from the outset.
Barbados wing attack Linda Wilson and centre Dionne Quarless provided an endless supply of opportunities for goal shooter Cheryl Squires and goal attack Olivia Walcott helping their side to a 14-7 quarter-time lead.
Latonia Natasha Carrolann Blackman effected numerous intercepts at wing defence as Barbados sustained their dominance to lead 33-12 at half-time and 51-22 at three quarter-time.
