In was one of the quickest opening round matches of the womenís table tennis team event.

Singapore have top individual seeds Jia Wei Li (SIN) and Jun Hong Jing (SIN), but rested the latter. Xue Ling Zhang (SIN) took only eight minutes 25 seconds to dismiss Boteng Ntisane (LES) in three straight games.

New Zealandís two Chinese players, Karen Li and Li Chunli, had three-game victories as the third seeded team never needed to click into top gear to overcome tenth seeds Northern Ireland 3-l.

Michelle McGreevy (NIR), with an unorthodox grip, got the better of a multi-stroke rally against penholder Chunli. Liís strong forehand smash got her home against Andrea Glover (NIR), who equalled her only when slowing play down.

New Zealandís Tracey McLauchlan had to work harder, however, against Jing Yi Gao, who fully deserved Northern Irelandís only victory ll-9, 8-ll, ll-6, ll-3, her speciality being a powerful hit down the side of the table.

Second seeds Canada had a good 3-0 start over Barbados, top of the unseeded group and whose Rawle Alleyne expects to do better as the tournament progresses.
