But after losing the first game 9-11 against the lower rated Asim Qureshi and Ghazala Rohi (PAK), they took control to reach the round of 32.

Trevor Brown and Tammy Gough (AUS) were made to struggle by Faazil Kassam and Chris Xu (CAN) in a five gamer. The Canadian pair led 2-1 before Brown and Gough took the final two.

Also through for England are Gareth Herbert and Nicola Deaton and Alex Perry and Helen Lower. Herbert and Deaton went through on default when United Republic of Tanzaniaís Ayubu Zuberi and Agnes Ngodoki failed to make an appearance.

Perry, who is celebrating his 26th birthday, and Lower were taken to four games before lowering Trevor Far and Angela Reid (BAR).

There were also victories for Euan Walker and Claire Bentley (SCO) in three games over Ramoka Mohatlane and Manthab Senekane (LES).

At the opening of the menís doubles, the St Vincent and Grenadines pair Kerry Pierre and Deighton King did not start against Paul Mutambuze and Andrew Gita (UGA) and therefore conceded the tie.

Menawhile, Tokannata Ioatene and Kevin Reo (KRI) beat Ramokanate Mohatlane and Maboee Nthejane (LES) 3-0.
