Weightlifting preview - 1 August
Stephen Ward (ENG) takes his formidable weightlifting record into the 85kg Commonwealth Games competition on Thursday with high hopes of taking a gold medal.
Ward, a 29-year-old IT technician from Peterborough, is the defending champion from Kuala Lumpur where he won gold in the snatch and then added the silver in both the clean & jerk and overall categories.
Ward can expect some stiff competition in the expected 18-strong field which also includes the Wales duo of Ray Vaughan and Andy Goswell, fellow England team-mate Anthony Arthur and Robert Campbell (AUS).
Wales, encouraged by the gold medal of Michaela Breeze in the womenís competition, have the Welsh pair David Morgan and Tony Morgan competing in the menís 77kg competition.
The womenís competition continues with the 63kg category where Non Evans, who also competes in judo and plays international rugby for Wales, is one of the representatives in an entry drawn from eight countries.
