The mat Wrestlers compete on a 12m square mat. The mat is at least four centimetres thick and has a vinyl cover. The actual area of competition is a circle nine metres in diameter. At the core is a small central circle marked by a red outline with a diameter of one metre. Wrestlers will start a match here and also return to this point if commanded to by the referee. Beyond that is a yellow seven-metre circle called the central wrestling area, where the majority of the bout will occur. Outside of this is a one metre red area designed to warn the competitors that they are almost out of bounds. Around the entire circle is a blue border at least 1.5m wide at any point and known as the protection area. |
