The Manchester Evening News Arena is the largest multi-purpose indoor entertainment and sports arena in Europe. It has played host to a variety of international sporting events ranging from basketball and ice hockey to boxing and netball. The spectator capacity ranges from 7,000 to 21,000 dependent upon the configuration of the play zone and the Arena has full TV broadcasting and recording facilities, including the world's largest indoor scoreboard/video wall combination. The netball and boxing (semi-finals & finals) competitions for the Commonwealth Games will be staged here.

Venue hours

Standard venue hours for every Commonwealth Games venue are to open 60 minutes before each session and to close 30 minutes after the session. On 1 August the following hours apply:

Session 1: doors open 12.00; doors close 17.15
Session 2: doors open 17.45; doors close 22.30

General venue rules


  • No glass bottles or cans may be brought into the venue

  • No alcoholic beverages may be brought into the venue although they may be purchased from the bar within the venue

  • Smoking is permitted only in designated areas

  • Children under the age of two will be admitted free provided they do not occupy a seat
