Carver-Dias looks unstoppable

26 July 2002

Canada’s Claire Carver-Dias is in pole position after the technical routine of the solo synchronised swimming event.

Carver-Dias has a comfortable lead

Carver-Dias scored 46.417 points and will head into Friday afternoon’s free routine with a commanding lead ahead of England’s Gayle Adamson, who finished with 43.417, and Australia’s Naomi Young close behind on 42.834.

Adamson opened the competition impressively and remained in the lead until the fifth routine when Carver-Dias, the firm favourite, made her entrance.

Canada have won all eight gold medals since solo and duet synchronised swimming were introduced to the Games in 1986 and Carver-Dias proceeded to show why with a performance that suggested gold number nine is on its way.
