Carrying 47.00pts through to the free routine later on Saturday evening, the Canadian pair starts three clear points ahead of their closest rivals, England (43.917pts).

Englandís Gayle Adamson and Katie Hooper looked in fine form in the morningís technical routine edging out the Australian duet, Naomi Young and Ashleigh Rudder (42.50).

Canada has won all nine synchro gold medals since the sport was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in 1986, with Carver-Dias having continued the sequence in the solo routine on Friday 26 July.

The decisive synchro duet free routine begins at 16.30.
