Karen Pickering was nearly in tears after winning the womens 200-metre freestyle finale just ahead of teammate Karen Legg who took silver.

Pickering broke her own personal record as well as the Games record swimming a fantastic 1:59.69.

An ecstatic Pickering said: Id been feeling really good before the race, but I didnt expect to go that fast, and now I just want to keep that going.

I cant feel anything at the moment, Im just so overwhelmed. I was just thinking, I hope Leggys [Karen Legg] swimming well. Weve swam so many races together, we really go for it over the last 50 of every race and I think that helped us through tonight, she added.

Silver medallist Karen Legg also broke her personal best with a time of 1:59.86

She said: Im really pleased. Really happy. I cant believe it.

Australian swimming legend Petria Thomas gained the bronze medal in a time of 2:00.07.
