Swimming record smashed at Aquatics Centre today

South Africa's Natalie du Toit thrust her way to a new world record in a time of 1:02.83.

She commented: "I didn't have a world record in mind. I just wanted to go hard in the heats. I just want to get out there and do everything I did before."

The Manchester Games is the first time that Du Toit has taken part in an EAD event, having previously represented her country in able bodied events. The young star lost her leg after a moped accident last year.

She discussed her accident: "I'm taking my final school exams later this year when I get back. At the moment, I have no social life. I just want to go out there and do everything I did before my accident."
