There are few more exciting scenes in sport than seeing a top class field athlete winding up to attempt to snatch the lead with their final throw or jump.
The tension in the stadium builds, the crowd concentrate and the rhythmic handclap begins. Twenty seconds later comes elation or despair. There's no middle ground and that's why the City of Manchester stadium will witness both heartbreak and joy every day of the Games. Field events, for both men and women, include the long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot-putt, discus, javelin and hammer throw. Athletic events at the stadium run from 26-31 July and there's something on show for everybody's tastes.
