Golden girl Cathy is in Games

15 July 2002

Olympic gold medal winner Cathy Freeman is to run in the Commonwealth Games after all.

Cathy Freeman will join her Australian teammates for the 4x400m relay

Earlier this year the Olympic 400m champion said she would not compete in the individual event at Manchester because she was committed to caring for her husband, who has cancer.

But she left the door open on competing in the 4x400metres relay, and today in Melbourne she said she had been urged by her husband to run in that event.

“After the relay, I plan to return to Australia where I will continue to train while my husband’s treatment continues,” she said.
