South African takes Kenyan's title

Mbulaeni Mulaudzi of South Africa takes on the challenge of the Kenyans to grab gold in the 800m final.

Mulaudzi (1:46.32) was just ahead of silver medallist Joseph Mutua (1:46.57) of Kenya and Australia's Kris McCarthy (1:46.79) who took third.

Mulaudzi has represented South Africa at the 2001 World Championships and the World Student Games. He was the 1999 African Junior Champion and the 2001 national senior champion.

Defending champion Japhet Kimutai threw the race wide open when he started drifting off the pace.
