24 July 2002

Mauritius have been accepted as a late entry into badminton’s mixed team competition.

There will not be a re-draw – Mauritius will be added to one of the four existing groups drawn on Saturday, 20 July.

“A committee of the Commonwealth Games Federation accepted that Mauritius’s failure to enter their team was due to a genuine mistake,” said the International Badminton Federation’s technical delegate Gary Walters, on 24 July.

“As a result, the CGF, subject to approval from the IBF, recommended Mauritius should, if possible, be accommodated in the draw,” said Walters.

“And in keeping with the spirit of the Friendly Games, we have accepted Mauritius as a late entry in to the team competition,” said Walters.

The draw to place Mauritius in a group will take place at the team managers’ meeting at the Bolton Arena on Wednesday, 24 July at 19:00.
