Simon Archer (ENG) and James Anderson (ENG) beat nervous-looking Falkland Islanders Chris Eynon and Doug Besley-Clark in under eight minutes, 7-0, 7-0, 7-1.

Eynon and Besley-Clark did not score until mid-way through the third set, and when they did, they received a huge cheer from the crowd.

Other winners included top-seeds Chew Choon Eng (MAS) and Chan Chong Ming (MAS) and the number 2 seeds from New Zealand, Daniel Shirley and John Gordon.

The only women’s doubles seeds with a first round match were top-seeds Ella Miles (ENG) and Sara Sankey (ENG) who won their game against Amaani Rasheed and Shaeen Rasheed from the Maldives 7-0, 7-3, 7-1.

Joanne Muggeridge (WAL) and Felicity Gallupp (WAL) meet Miles and Sankey in the second round later on Thursday after beating Canada’s Milaine Cloutier and Robbyn Hermitage 7-1, 7-0, 7-1.

Australia’s top-pairing of Kate Wilson-Smith and Rhonda Cator found the attack from Malaysia’s Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui too varied, losing 3-7, 7-5, 7-0, 7-5.

The rest of the women’s doubles first round matches are completed in Thursday’s afternoon session.
