Kiwis take control of hockey

New Zealand moved into a strong position with three points in the womenís Pool 2 on the back of a convincing 3-1 win against India.

New Zealand v India

New Zealand in action against India at Belle Vue

Suzie Pearceís performance was dazzling, and she scored the vital goal to swing the game New Zealandís way.

India had begun the game well, weaving tricky patterns with great skill and they deservedly took the lead in the 16th minute with a classic goal.

Jyoti Kullu scissored through the New Zealand defence with Sanggai Maimom to finish with a high shot. Two minutes later she almost did it again, but this time Helen Clarke tipped her clever lob over the bar.

Pearce scored the equaliser in the 25th minute with a tremendous reverse stick shot as she cut across the circle.

Colleen Gubb-Suddaby (NZL) deflected Pearceís short-corner strike five minutes into the second half to give the goal keeper no chance.

The India girls never gave up but Moria Senior scored from a short corner three minutes from the end to sew up the match for New Zealand.
