Kookaburras call the hockey shots

Australia tightened their grip on Pool 3 of the menís hockey competition with a powerful 4-1 win against South Africa.

Ben Taylor and Craig Victory celebrate another Australian goal

With Australiaís remaining game bringing them an easy fixture against Barbados, the Commonwealth champions are on track to finish with maximum six points to go straight into the semi-finals.

The South Africans battled hard, but had no answer to Matt Smith scoring with a short-corner flick after 21 minutes.

They had a goal disallowed and were still very much in the game at the end of the first-half with the tournament favourites unable to add to their lead and the score still standing at 1-0.

The second half was a different story, however, as Australia gathered pace to give their opponents a torrid time.

Jamie Dwyer dribbled past the keeper in the 41st minute and this was shortly followed by a goal from Craig Victory, sliding in at the far post. Then Ben Taylor made it 4-0 from a short corner.

South Africaís response came eventually after Bevan George had pushed over Mike Cullen for a penalty stroke which was converted by Justin King, but it was too late to disturb the Aussies.
